How to Clean Hardwood Floors

Hardwood flooring is a big investment, but you’ll find that it’s a worthwhile one. Hardwood floors are crafted to last the life of a home, and they increase the value of your home should you be looking to sell. But, your investment will need some protection in order for you to keep the value, and this includes a cleaning regimen. At Carpet One Floor & Home in Moose Jaw, SK, we want to provide some tips and tricks for cleaning hardwood floors and how to clean hardwood floors. We also want to provide some insight on how to know if your floor may need a refinishing job.

Hardwood maintenance in three easy steps:

Daily

Going over the floor daily with a broom will remove the dirt and dust that has built up with use. The dust can cause scratching and damage to the finish. In the case of spills, be sure to wipe up immediately. Moisture left on hardwood can cause planks to warp, which can ruin your planks.

Weekly

Mopping up the floor once a week will provide a deeper clean than your daily sweeping. You can dry mop or mop, but make sure the cleaner you use is manufacturer approved to be sure that it is covered under your warranty!

Occasionally

When you’re thinking regular cleaning isn’t doing its job anymore, it may be time to refinish your floors. You can test to see if your hardwood floor needs refinishing with a water droplet. After you place a drop of water onto your floor, watch to see what happens. If the water beads up on top of your floor, the finish is still in tact. If the water soaks in after a little while, the finish could be starting to lose its effectiveness. If the water soaks through immediately, that is the sign you are in need of hardwood floor refinishing.
